Choosing an Instrument

Choosing an instrument

What to play?

So, you want to play an instrument but can’t decide which one. The following may help you choose:

The Look

Use the menu on the left to look at all the instruments.
Left

  • Do you like how they look?
  • Can you see yourself playing one of them?
  • Which is your favourite?

The Sound

Use the menu on the left to listen to the instruments.
Left

  • Do you like how they sound?
  • Would you like to make that sound?
  • Learning an instrument is a lot easier
if you like how it sounds.

The size of the instrument

Flutes and recorders are nice and small when they are in their cases – easy to carry everywhere!

You love the look and sound of the Double Bass but will you be able to carry it to school or take it on the bus?

What suits you?

Have your second set of teeth come through yet? Strange question perhaps but without them, you will find it very hard to play a brass instrument.

Do you have long fingers? Maybe the piano or keyboard is the one for you.

Keyboard

Do you like making lots of noise? Think about percussion – all you need to start with is a pair of drum sticks and a practice pad.

Follow your heart! If you are crazy about playing one instrument above all the others, you should go for it! If you are excited about learning, you will pick things up much faster.

Remember: whichever one you choose, practice makes perfect so start playing today!
