Berkshire Youth Choir (BYC) Berkshire Youth Choir is a choir of boys and girls aged 14-19 who sing a wide variety of music from 16th century to the present day, by composers as diverse as Palestrina, Mozart, Chilcott and Simon and Garfunkel. The singers have the opportunity to perform in a wide variety of venues and benefit from the professional tuition of high quality conductors, vocal tutors and choral ensembles. The choir undertake regular tours, most recently to Italy and the Rhineland and have performed in venues as diverse as Cologne Cathedral, Reading Town Hall, The Anvil in Basingstoke and St George's Chapel, Windsor. They have an ongoing relationship with the BBC Singers, with whom they have done workshops and given a concert at the Maida Vale Studios in London. Their recent performance of Mozart's Requiem in Eton College School Hall was described as "a remarkable performance, delivered to a very high standard." Berkshire Youth Choir is an excellent training ground in which the basics of choral singing are taught and the singers are encouraged to take a personal responsibility for the quality of the choir. It is a fantastic place for students to develop their sight reading and musicianship skills. Many singers from Berkshire Youth Choir have gone on to pursue a career in singing whilst for others it has given them an enjoyment of singing at an amateur level that stays with them for the rest of their lives. |

In January 2010, Berkshire Youth Choir will join forces with the BBC Singers for a special concert in the BBC’s iconic Maida Vale studios – the perfect way to beat those New Year Blues!
Featuring music from James MacMillan and Ligeti to Simon & Garfunkel, the concert will culminate in a joint performance of Poulenc’s highly-charged Mass in G.

On Friday 21st November, members of Berkshire Youth Choir (BYC) and Senior Girls Choir (SGC) spent the day at the BBC Maida Vale studios, where they took part in a workshop with the BBC Singers. Click on 'read the complete article' for more details, quotes and photos.
Anyone who is serious about singing, enjoys it and has a reasonably good and confident voice is welcome to apply to join one of the choirs. Entry is by audition, and application forms will be distributed via school and through teachers. They are also available by contacting us via the feedback form. These auditions take place in May at various places around the county.
