Berkshire Youth Choir (BYC)

Berkshire Youth Choir is a choir of boys and girls aged 14-19 who sing a wide variety of music from 16th century to the present day, by composers as diverse as Palestrina, Mozart, Chilcott and Simon and Garfunkel. The singers have the opportunity to perform in a wide variety of venues and benefit from the professional tuition of high quality conductors, vocal tutors and choral ensembles. The choir undertake regular tours and have performed in venues as diverse as Cologne Cathedral, Reading Town Hall, The Anvil in Basingstoke and St George's Chapel, Windsor. They completed a successful tour to Tuscany and Umbria in July and more recently to Normandy in February, where they were most enthusiastically received. They are planning a tour to Andalucia for summer 2012.

They have an ongoing relationship with the BBC Singers, with whom they have done workshops and given a joint performance of Poulenc Mass in G at the Maida Vale Studios in London. They work regularly with orchestras and have recently performed Faure’s Requiem with soloists from the BBC Singers and Mozart’s Requiem at Eton School Hall, a concert that was described as "a remarkable performance, delivered to a very high standard."

They are currently working towards a live Radio 3 performance at the Camden Roundhouse on Sunday 4 March. This is part of the Voices Now event and in preparation for this the BBC Singers will be visiting us in Reading for a workshop day in February. For more information visit the Roundhouse website. Tickets are free.

In July BYC will be going on tour with the Berkshire Youth Guitar Orchestra to Spain.
The Youth Choir will rehearse on alternate Saturday evenings in Reading from 5.00 – 7.30pm.

“My years in BYC were some of the most formative of my musical training. They gave me great confidence, experience and, above all, a profound sense of fun and enjoyment in music making, not to mention a number of friends for life.”
