Sounds
A classical guitar uses nylon strings, and electric guitars use steel strings. You can also get acoustic guitars that use steel strings but you should never put steel strings on a classical guitar as this could break the neck on the guitar. The electric guitar has to be plugged into an amp to get a sound and you can changed the sound on an amp with the tone, gain and master volume controls. To get a good rock sound, turn the gain up and the master volume to appropriate level.
You can use effects pedals (often seen as FX pedals) between the guitar and the amp to further change the sound of the electric guitar. There are thousands to choose from, such as overdrive, phaser, flanger, chorus, wah. These can add variety to your sounds and you can use different sounds for different moods you want to create.
Fingers and picks
If you’re right-handed, you use the right hand to make the note sound, either with fingers and thumb for the classical guitar or with a pick (also know as a plectrum) for the electric guitar. Some bass guitarists use their fingers, others use picks and some use both at different times, depending on the type of sound they want at the time.
