You can play all sorts of music so whether you like pop, classical, jazz or any other type; you’re bound to find something to suit you.

Instruments come in families, so pick the one you’re interested in from the menu on the left. For each instrument we’ve given some general information, tips for progress and advice on how to look after your instrument.

Once you’ve had a few lessons you’ll want to join a group, which is the most enjoyable part of making music. For each instrument we’ve listed the groups that you can take part in, along with the minimum standard required. Don’t worry if you’ve only just started – there’s something for everyone!

We’ve included a list of famous players for each instrument to provide you with inspiration. Many players have web-sites so we’ve provided links where we can. These sites contain all sorts of interesting stuff like information on the player’s career, tour dates and even sound files, so you can hear them in action!
