Learning an instrument or taking voice lessons complements and enhances the
educational life of all those who participate. We offer the opportunity to
schools in Berkshire to work with us to provide group lessons for their pupils.
In fifteen years, our specialist voice and instrumental teachers have touched the lives of hundreds of thousands of young people, some ten per cent of the Berkshire school population. An excellent record, but what about the remaining ninety per cent of children who listen to music but may not know how to create it? The government is committed to ensuring that over time every primary-school pupil has the chance to learn a musical instrument. This ambitious target will only be achieved through greater collaborative working between us and you, the headteachers, music coordinators and heads of music, all of whom provide children and young people with early access to a wide range of music experiences. With this in mind we have appointed a School Development Officer who works on building closer relationships and identifying individual schools’ needs. We would encourage headteachers to email our School Development Officer, Naomi Hinton, with any queries they may have.
As well as group lessons it may be possible for Berkshire Maestros to provide a concert or workshop at your school. These can be tailored to your preferences and individual needs and will encourage young people to participate in a live musical experience which can in turn inspire them to learn an instrument.
Sing
and Play is the name that we have chosen for our Widening Opportunities projects.
Targeting Key Stage 2 children, these courses offer a balanced and
practical introduction to basic musicianship skills which is integrated into
learning to play an instrument. Go to our Widening
Opportunities section
