Maestros encourages all of its young musicians to join an ensemble (band, choir, orchestra etc).  Playing in an orchestra or a band or singing in a choir can be the most enjoyable part of making music. Not only does it complement lessons but pupils make new friends, learn new skills, perform regularly in concerts and - most importantly - have lots of fun.

We are looking to expand opportunity to even greater numbers of children. The government’s wider opportunities programme will enable us to do this. To be successful, however, we need to ensure that there is a structure of bands, choirs and orchestras for every young musician and in every area of the county. We are always looking to expand our pyramids of ensembles and to do this in a sustainable way we need to seek funding from businesses.

Many of our most talented young musicians are members of Maestros' top bands, choirs and orchestras; ensembles that regularly perform in this county’s most famous concert halls. All of the groups have won prizes in national and international competitions, and frequently receive invitations to work with top professional musicians. In 2005 members of the Berkshire Youth Orchestra worked with the BBC Symphony Orchestra in a ground breaking Proms concert broadcast and televised live from the Royal Albert Hall. These groups regularly undertake overseas tours, principally but not exclusively in Europe.

Sponsorship of these groups enables Maestros to enhance the opportunities for the most gifted and talented young musicians (many of whom go on to study music at university and conservatoire before commencing careers as teacher – performers) as well as bringing down the cost of ensemble membership across the board.

We are very proud to have the support of the following organisations:

Maestros present a number of concerts each year in prestigious local venues, and regularly appear in London’s Royal Albert and Royal Festival Halls. Many of these concerts involve primary and secondary pupils from schools across the county. These inter-school events are important milestones in the musical experience of young people and are hugely popular with children and their parents and teachers.

In addition to the county groups referred to above many of the senior music centre ensembles undertake tours in the UK and overseas. The time spent together on tour helps the group to develop as a musical unit, providing opportunities for experimental or creative work guided by specialist workshop leaders and composers.

Maestros have a stock of instruments that can be loaned to pupils in the early stages of learning. This stock is by no means large enough to meet the growing demand, and we would welcome donations towards the purchase of new beginner instruments. Similarly, we would welcome the donation or long-term loan of good quality instruments for use by more advanced students.
